About Jumbles

Welcome to Jumbles Sailing Club

Jumbles Sailing Club, North of Bolton, is an active sailing club. We focus on dinghy sailing both racing and just pottering about.

If you already know how to sail then come along and join in the fun. If you don’t know how to sail then still come along and we will show you. There is regular racing on Sundays and on Tuesday afternoon and evenings during the summer months. There are a number of Training Days as well, usually on Saturdays (see RYA Training page). There is an active Junior Club for children aged 8 to 18 which meets on designated Fridays and Saturdays.

The club is family orientated and there are numerous social functions to cater for all tastes and ages.

Come on down to the club and take a look around – the best times to find the members and get a real feel for the club are undoubtedly on Sundays. We can assure you of a warm welcome.

Membership is open to all.

We aim to provide the friendliest, most enjoyable sailing experience in the north of England.

Club House & Facilities

The Club has excellent facilities. A major new club-house extension project has provided a new safety boat storage area and brand new changing facilities for members. These new changing rooms allow provision of disabled facilities to help make the club more inclusive. The large clubhouse is right on the bank of the reservoir; it has a comfortable, well-furnished lounge complete with a well-stocked bar.   The picture windows overlook the water and provide an excellent view of the reservoir and boats out sailing.   There is a well equipped galley (kitchen) from which hot drinks are served and from which members provide lunch on a rota basis on Sundays during the season.   There is a large ‘wet’ area for members in sailing gear and both male and female changing rooms with toilets and hot showers.   A large car park is adjacent to the clubhouse, as is an equally large boat park.   The latter has access direct to the water via a concrete launching ramp.   Lawns outside the clubhouse provide a perfect picnic spot on warm days and a club barbecue is available.

Boats

The club owns 1 Topper, 2 Picos, 4 Qubas and 1 RS Vision. The Manchester section of the CSSC owns another 4 boats which are 1 Topper, 1 Enterprise, 1 GP14 and 1 Laser 13. The boats are available for members use for a small maintenance contribution so it is not necessary to own your own boat. In fact it is advisable to try out a number of boats before deciding which one is the most suitable for you. In addition we have a reciprocal membership agreement with the Lancashire Schools Sailing Association (LSSA) and keep 5 Toppers belonging to them for the use of children. Their sailing team often trains at Jumbles and there are opportunities for young people to progress in racing.
